Applying to the UConn Women's Leadership Graduate Certificate
Taking the next step towards earning your graduate certificate in women’s leadership.
To apply for admission to the Emerging Women's Leadership Graduate Certificate, complete the application process which begins at the link below. Applicants must have completed a Baccalaureate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university. We are currently accepting applications for the Fall 2024 semester.
The fall application deadline is July 24. Apply now to avoid last minute processing delays.
Application Instructions
Applications will be evaluated upon receipt of all required documentation:
- Current resume or CV (uploaded).
- Two Letters of Recommendation are required (electronically submitted).
- Application Essay (maximum 3 pages double-spaced; uploaded)

- The above quotes provide different ideas about leadership and thus who a leader is and how they might act. In this essay, please share thoughts regarding your current understanding of leadership and yourself as a leader, acknowledging that these ideas might shift over time.Include how individuals in your life, your education (both formal and informal), and your own life experiences have shaped this view. Also, please share why you are interested in the EWL certificate and how this certificate will contribute to your leadership development and life/career aspirations.
- Unofficial transcript(s) for all undergraduate and graduate coursework (uploaded).
- Official college transcript(s) mailed to The Graduate School (see address below). Please note that official transcripts from UConn will automatically be sent to the admissions committee for review. Official transcripts from other institutions must be mailed to The Graduate School directly (see address below).
- Successful candidates normally meet the recommended 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
- If you use the results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), you must have a minimum overall score of 550 for the paper-based test or 79 for the internet-based test. GREs are not required.
- Practicum Site Form
- Potential students must have an established 'practicum site’ (organization) prior to enrollment in the program. The practicum site selection is driven based on student interest. The practicum site could include their current place of employment or can be a new organization for which the student has interest in working or interning.
- Students must be engaged in the practicum site for a minimum of 10 hours/week.
- The program will not establish practicum sites for students. Students working full time can (and are encouraged) to use their place of employment as their practicum site.
- Students must work with the practicum site to ensure their release, in writing, for all course times. Exact course times are TBD, but are typically during the evening EST.

International Students: This program is a part-time and online program. Pursuant to U.S. immigration regulations, the University of Connecticut may not sponsor F-1 and J-1 visas for the purpose of coming to the U.S. for enrollment in this program. International students may enroll in this program if they are currently in the U.S. in another visa status that permits foreign nationals to engage in school enrollment while meeting their primary visa objective, or if they complete the program from their home country.
