Emerging Women's Leadership Online Graduate Certificate

A landscape-evolving, 12-credit Emerging Women’s Leadership Online Graduate program.

Women make up almost 51% of the U.S. population, yet they lag substantially behind men in representation in leadership positions across industries. These gaps are also racialized with women of color experiencing additional challenges accessing and thriving in leadership positions. It is imperative that we attend to the similar and unique experiences of women across various marginalized and/or minoritized identities as we consider how to enhance their leadership journeys and the organizations in which they find themselves. The University of Connecticut’s Emerging Women’s Leadership Online Graduate Certificate addresses this leadership inequity by training young, emerging women leaders to put leadership theory into practice in their respective fields.

Build your ability to drive organizational and systemic change to enhance your and others’ success.

UConn’s 100% online graduate certificate focused on women’s leadership is steeped in core competencies and theories driven by decades of research. The curriculum supports women who have recently completed their bachelor’s degree to better understand organizational change and develop their creative and critical thinking, as well as their leadership potential, to disrupt current ways of engaging and expand their career opportunities. Upon completion of the program, emerging women leaders will be able to:

  • Understand the ways in which leadership is traditionally understood and enacted in a racialized and gendered framework.
  • Identify and explore the structural discrimination operating in organizations, their field, and society.
  • Develop a toolkit of skills/strategies to build momentum around organizational change that prepares them to challenge current concepts of “effective” leadership in their field and make it more inclusive.
  • Strengthen their courage and resilience to engage in change leadership by increasing close connections with women engaged in this work.
